- An expert has warned that struggling to hear everyday sounds, such as rustling leaves or falling rain, could indicate undiagnosed hearing loss.
- The charity RNID is encouraging people to prioritise their auditory health and utilise its free online hearing check.
- A survey conducted for RNID found that almost half of individuals never diagnosed with hearing loss struggle to hear common sounds like rustling leaves (47 per cent) or a name being called from another room (46 per cent).
- Crystal Rolfe, RNID's director of health, explained that hearing loss can develop at any age due to factors such as gradual ageing, loud noise exposure, injury or infection.
- She emphasised that early recognition and action regarding hearing loss can significantly improve communication and reconnect individuals with a “whole world of sounds.”
