Director Vivek Agnihotri's 'The Kashmir Files' is raking in the big bucks at the box office. The film has been showing phenomenal growth at the ticket windows since its release last Friday.
The film, which collected Rs 3.55 crore on its opening day, minted Rs 15 crore on its first Monday and added an estimated Rs 17-18 crore on Tuesday, taking its collection to an estimated Rs 60 crore. This double-digit figure on a weekday has broken post-pandemic records set by previous Bollywood releases.
Going by the trends, the film is set to witness a steady footfall all through the week, setting it up for a Rs 100 crore collection.
According to boxofficeindia.com, 'bulk bookings' for the film has amped up the collections in national multiplex chains and many independent multiplexes as well. The film is expected to hit a daily collection of Rs 20 crore nett. It remains to be seen if it can cross the number in its first week or over its second weekend.
As per trade analyst Sumit Kadel, "The kind of business 'The Kashmir Files' is truly historic for a small-budget film. The last time a film registered such an impressive business was in 1975 with 'Jai Santoshi Maa'. The film is set to rake in another Rs 15 crore by the end of Tuesday, same as Monday and Sunday."
The jump in the film's business is massive and much of it comes from the increased screen numbers. The film was released on 600 screens. On Sunday, the count increased to 2,000. Right now it's running on 2,500 screens in India.
As for the film's lifetime collection, it is reported that the total may even surpass Rs 200-250 crore.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's support to the film could further boost the film's business. Speaking at the BJP parliamentary party meeting in Delhi, Modi took a dig at the critics of the film and said that the recently-released movie is foregrounding the truth that was deliberately kept hidden.
As for the film's run on the box office, it has already beaten Prabhas' 'Radhe Shyam', but question remains if it can hold steady at the box office once Akshay Kumar's 'Bachchhan Paandey' hits the big screen.
