The Kardashians get brand new iPhones dropped off every week in quarantine to film KUWTK

Each week, the Kardashian/Jenner family gets the same package delivered to each of their mansions - a brand new iPhone.

Keeping Up With The Kardashians executive producer Farnaz Farjam explained that the usual crew was forced to take a break from filming following the state of California's social distancing guidelines.

California's stay-at-home regulations ordered people to leave their homes only for essential needs - an order that was put in place on March 19.

The regulations left Kris Jenner and Farnaz to brainstorm ideas of how to keep the show alive without the crew, and that's when Kris had an idea.

The Momager proposed that the girls - Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, Kylie and Kendall - capture their own footage at home.

Farnaz then arranged for a photographer and a technician to enter their homes in full hazmat suits to light rooms for confessionals and set up tripods that would hold their iPhones.

Speaking to Elle, Farnaz revealed: "If Kris gets annoyed and walks out of the camera angle, it's not like we can follow her and continue shooting. She has to come back onto the screen and explain [why she walked away]."

She added: "It's less fly-on-the-wall, because we have to give them direction and they have to be more informative with us… But because this is the Kardashians and they're entertaining regardless, it will be a fun watch for people."

After the set-up was complete, the girls began rolling the cameras themselves and ended up with around 16 hours of camera time each week.

Farnaz added that a showrunner in protective gear comes over to each of their houses every Monday to pick up the iPhones and drop off new ones to each of their security teams.

The executive producer admitted that the iPhones even pick up on some mumbling - which often makes up for comedy gold.

She explained: "Sometimes you'll hear them mumbling under their breath, 'Who knew a camera person's job would be so hard?!'.

"But, like, that's funny. That's gold. That's stuff we want to include in the show."
