It has the same high spirits as its predecessor, The Donkey Show, and, like that disco version of A Midsummer Night's Dream, it tries to wed Shakespeare to popular culture. But The Comedy of Errors has already gone down a storm both in Edinburgh and the West End as the Bomb-itty of Errors and this version of the same play seems no more than an excuse for a pantomime-style singalong. You get the feeling that the show is essentially an opportunity for members of the audience to get up and give their Britney Spears which isn't much fun for everybody else.
The telling of the story of twins separated soon after birth is done with a mixture of camp style and hip-hop energy, but the show and its storytelling style seem awkwardly shoe-horned together. The Karaoke style inserts actually hold up the action rather than ease it along. Great for hen parties, but a bore for the rest of us.
