The Kai Havertz and Timo Werner Chelsea stats which will concern Frank Lampard

The summer transfer window was a massive one for Chelsea, with Frank Lampard bringing in over £200m of talent.

Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva, Edouard Mendy and Ben Chilwell were all signed by Lampard, as he looks to make the Blues into title challengers.

The German duo Werner and Havertz have endured mixed starts to their life at Stamford Bridge. The former, Werner, has scored eight goals in all competitions for his new club, but hasn't found the net in his last eight outings.

The form won't be too much of a concern for Lampard with the German striker still showing his quality on the pitch even when he's not scoring.

For Havertz, it's been a bit of a slower start, with the 21-year-old scoring four goals and providing two assists in all competitions for the Blues. The German playmaker has shown glimpses of his undeniable talent, though, and you get the feeling there's a lot more to come from him in a Chelsea shirt.

The duo's start to the season has been analysed on Reddit, with their touch distribution being compared to previous campaigns. With Havertz, there's a couple of quite remarkable statistics that could concern Chelsea supporters somewhat.

Havertz's touches in the defensive third of the pitch have increased by 52% in comparison to the 2019/20 season when he was playing for Bayer Leverkusen.

The midfielder has also seen a dramatic decrease in the amount of touches in the attacking penalty area, with a drop of 75% compared to last season.

There are similar stats for his Germany and Chelsea teammate, Werner, who has seen a 30% decrease in touches in the penalty area this season compared to last when he was with RB Leipzig.

Likewise with his touches in the defensive third of the pitch increasing by a whopping 147%.

This of course could be down to the more possession-based style of play that Lampard likes to play. But it could also be down to Chelsea having to defend more and see out games in comparison to their former Bundesliga sides.
