The joyous Rangers goal picture which proves all is not lost

It was day of celebration for supporters of Rangers as they swept aside rivals Celtic on Sunday.

Steven Gerrard has finished his first season without a trophy but there was a real sense his team have found the solution to halt their all-conquering rivals.

A meaningless derby? Try telling that to the Rangers faithful who roared their team to a 2-0 victory on a sun-kissed day at Ibrox.

Gerrard knows full well that his team need to do it on a consistent basis if they are to wrestle the title away from Parkhead.

Scott Arfield celebrates scoring his side's second goal of the game against Celtic (PA)

Rangers want to get back to the top and there was certainly an old school feeling within Ibrox.

In a week when Manchester City displayed digital fan banners, you could never accuse Rangers vs Celtic of becoming sanitised.

And one picture perfectly encapsulated the raw energy which reverberated around Ibrox when Scott Arfield netted the crucial second goal midway through the second half.

Mobile phones have become a scourge at big sporting events and concerts over the past decade but selfies were the last thing supporters were thinking about as the midfielder slotted past Scott Bain.

As Arfield wheeled away an image showing Rangers fans going bonkers shows fans living in the moment rather than capturing footage for social media.  There wasn't a phone in sight.

Perhaps the ridiculous trend of half and half scarves will be next to bite the dust.
