The journey continues for Lanarkshire author with launch of latest book

A Blantyre author is celebrating Scottish Book Week by launching a much anticipated new book about the history of his hometown.

High Blantyre businessman, Paul Veverka launches ' Blantyre Project - A Journey in Time Volume 5' on Saturday, November 19, which promises to be a riveting read of community stories and old photos throughout the ages.

The latest of Paul's series of books about Blantyre has been a long time coming following a suspension in his writing during the Covid pandemic following by a serious, sudden illness last year.

Whatsmore, proceeds from the book will be going entirely to local good causes, with Paul retaining nothing financially.

The 51-year-old told Lanarkshire Live : At the end of 2021 I suddenly became unwell having difficulties breathing which, to my shock, resulted in an emergency triple heart bypass in early 2022.

"My recovery was slow and being off my daytime work as a commercial manager afforded me time to begin writing again.

"Following my operation, writing kept me occupied in the following months as my strength and health thankfully returned.

"It gave me time to research the local history stories I’d always wanted to write about.

" Part of my recovery was undoubtably due to the incredible support I received from my wife and daughter. Nothing was too much trouble, especially when I came out of hospital. I thank them both sincerely for the help and motivation they gave me.

"This new charitable book explores a collection of short stories about Blantyre from the 1300’s right through until the present day. It's a standalone book and can be picked up without having to read the others in the series.

"It's part of my own eventful journey and I hope those who read it thoroughly enjoy it."

Priced at just £12.99, the new book, and indeed all of Paul’s other 11 books can be found on Amazon or purchased with free worldwide delivery online.
