The Jose Mourinho record at Tottenham after international breaks and whether it gives Newcastle hope

Newcastle United will be hoping to capitalise upon any potential advantage when they host Tottenham Hotspur after the international break.

A defeat could send Steve Bruce's side into the relegation zone for the first time this season if Fulham manage to beat Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.

It is a difficult assignment for the Magpies, but the recent international break could hand the home side a possible edge.

Bruce was able to work with the bulk of his squad over the last fortnight, with only the likes of Martin Dubravka, Ryan Fraser, Jamal Lewis, Ciaran Clark and Jeff Hendrick earning call-ups.

In contrast, Jose Mourinho will have been deprived of a number of key players ahead of the trip to Tyneside including the likes of Harry Kane and Gareth Bale.

But how have Tottenham fared after international breaks under the 'Special One' since his appointment on November 20, 2019?

Here's a look at Mourinho's record after each two-week 'break', and whether United should be encouraged ahead of Sunday.

November 23, 2019 - West Ham 2-3 Tottenham

Mourinho's first match in charge came after an international break, and his reign got off to the perfect start with a derby victory.

Goals from Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Kane gave the visitors a comfortable victory, despite late strikes from Michail Antonio and Angelo Ogbonna.

September 13, 2020 - Tottenham 0-1 Everton

Following a Covid-19 enforced suspension, an international break preceded the start of the latest Premier League season.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin's header settled the contest and gave the visitors a deserved opening-day success.

October 18, 2020 - Tottenham 3-3 West Ham

Mourinho's side once again raced into a three-goal lead against their London rivals, courtesy of a strike from Son and a brace from Kane in the opening 16 minutes.

However, a disastrous second-half collapse set the stage for Manuel Lanzini to net a memorable injury-time equaliser.

November 21, 2020 - Tottenham 2-0 Manchester City

Tottenham delivered another Mourinho masterclass in defending to stifle Pep Guardiola's side and earn a deserved victory.

Son handed the hosts an early lead, and substitute Giovani Lo Celso made an immediate impact to seal the win.
