The Jody Morris admission that could rule Chelsea out of title race following Liverpool defeat

Chelsea's UEFA Super Cup defeat against Liverpool was a tough one to take.

After taking the Reds to extra time, a missed penalty from Tammy Abraham gifted the silverware to Jurgen Klopp's side on a dramatic night in Instanbul.

After the game, Frank Lampard's number two Jody Morris took to social media and praised the Blues for their efforts, and admitted that he was particularly pleased with the fact that Chelsea were the better team against 'a team of that level.

Taking to Instagram, he said: "Don’t always get what you deserve in football...to be the better team against that level of opponent in a match that goes 120 mins when they have had two extra days recovery. Proud.

"Can’t wait to get home to the Bridge on Sunday."

While such comments will be well received by the Chelsea squad, it does hint at an acceptance that Jurgen Klopp's side are a stronger outfit.

The Blues will be hoping to finish in the top four come the end of the season, but with Manchester City and Liverpool looking particularly strong, it could rule out a title charge for Frank Lampard's side.
