The Jets hilariously cut off ‘In The Air Tonight’ before Baker Mayfield could do the drum solo

Gotta give the Jets credit here: Even in defeat, they gave musical trolling a valiant shot.

Ever since Baker Mayfield joined the Cleveland Browns, his unquestionably favorite jam has been the drum solo to Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight.”

Whenever that drum solo hits, Mayfield is ready to get into it with some air drums. Just a couple examples:

Browns fans know that all too well — as does the rest of the NFL world evidently because the New York Jets seemed ready to mess with Mayfield ahead of Monday night’s game at Metlife Stadium.

According to those at the game, the loudspeakers at the stadium played “In The Air Tonight” only to abruptly change the song right before the drum solo hit.

So good. Unfortunately the closest video to the prank appears miss the song cutting off, but yeah, the song was played ahead of the game.

It could have only been better if the Jets had decided to go full San Diego Padres and rickrolled Baker with the Rick Astley song, “Never Gonna Give You Up.”

But that was probably expecting too much from the Jets.

There’s always next time.
