The Jeff Reine-Adelaide comments that reveal why he left Arsenal last summer ahead of Lyon move

Former Arsenal player Jeff Reine-Adelaide revealed that he left the club last summer after being told that he would not get into the match day squad under manager Unai Emery.

The youngster left the Emirates Stadium in summer 2018 and signed for French club Angers, where he has excelled, making 35 appearances in the French top division last season.

The central midfielder even found himself coming up against his former club during pre-season.

Reports in France now claim that the 21-year-old is on the verge of singin for Lyon in a €25m deal, which would be a club record deal for Angers, wit Arsenal set to receive 10% of the fee due to a sell on clause.

Talking about his departure from Arsenal last summer, the midfielder spoke about his 'complicated' exit.

"It is true that I would like to speak a little less of Arsenal. I was young. It was complicated," he told Goal back in June . "There was so much competition that it was difficult to get into the coach's line-up.

Unai Emery on why he decided not to start with new signings

"He [Emery] told me that the club did not rely too much on me. I took a blow, but Angers was on the lookout. It was a new chance, a new beginning. The train does not pass often and I was happy to get back in the right car."

Following an impressive debut season with his new team, there has been speculation over where Reine-Adelaide's future may lie, and the player has admitted that he is keen on joining a 'big club'.

"We do not know what is happening tomorrow, but I would like to stay in France to continue moving up before, why not, joining a big club."
