The jaw-dropping moment from the Gavin & Stacey Christmas special that's just been nominated for a BAFTA

Gavin & Stacey ended with a hell of a cliffhanger when it returned for its 2019 Christmas special, the first episode of the BBC comedy in almost a decade.

The long-awaited Barry-filmed comedy by Ruth Jones and James Corden finished with Jones' Nessa getting down on one knee to propose to Smithy, played by Corden.

Now the epic moment has been nominated for one of the TV moments of the year at this year's BAFTA Television Awards.

Fans - all 11.6 million of them who watched the show on December 25 - can now help the moment win as voting for the Virgin Media' Must See Moment Award is open, here.

The shock proposal is up against Sinead Osbourne's death on Coronation Street, Arya killing the Night King on Game of Thrones and John Corbett's death on Line of Duty, amongst others.

Last December Ruth Jones talked about shooting the scene, saying she was scared the paps would spoil the moment, a moment that meant a lot to the long-term collaborators, who first worked together on the drama, Fat Friends in the early 2000s.

She said: "When we did that last proposal scene, we were really scared that some pap would get a picture. I’m down on one knee. As Nessa, I said to Smithy ‘I loves you with all my heart’ and I really meant it to James. Our relationship is very brother and sisterly, we can argue but our friendship at the heart of it is so strong and I’m proud of our friendship and what we’ve been through together."

The full nominations for this year's BAFTA Television Awards will be announced on Thursday, June 4.
