The Yomiuri Shimbun will start printing The Japan News in Hokkaido from Nov. 1, to deliver its English-language newspaper more quickly to households in the region.
Copies of The Japan News up to now have arrived in Hokkaido on the evening of the edition date or the next morning, but from November they will be delivered on the morning of the edition date, as is The Yomiuri Shimbun.
Hokkaido is expected to receive an increased number of foreign visitors, as it will be the venue for the Tokyo Olympic marathon and race walking events in summer next year. There likely will be more occasions for Hokkaido residents to interact with people from abroad, and The Yomiuri Shimbun made the decision for reasons such as responding to a greater need for learning English.
The Japan News, the only English-language newspaper delivered daily in Hokkaido, will continue carrying domestic and international news and analytic stories. We sincerely appreciate your support for The Yomiuri Shimbun and The Japan News.
