The January transfer news that will interest Nottingham Forest and Leeds United fans

Nottingham Forest have been handed a potential transfer boost with Leeds United ruled out of the race to sign Dwight Gayle.

Gayle has been linked with a January move away from Newcastle United, where he has struggled for regular game time under Steve Bruce.

Forest, along with Championship rivals West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United, are among the teams reported to be interested.

But the Yorkshire Evening Post claim any speculation linking Gayle with a move to Elland Road is “well wide of the mark”.

With Reds striker Rafa Mir struggling at the City Ground and linked with a move away, Sabri Lamouchi could be looking to add a striker to his ranks to bolster their promotion push.

Gayle was a hit in the Championship last season, scoring 24 goals throughout the campaign.
