The James Scott Hibs recall danger as Hull City boss drops January hint over on-loan forward

Hull City boss Grant McCann has hinted that he could recall James Scott from his Hibs loan if he performs well.

The former Motherwell forward penned a season-long loan deal at Easter Road last week and made his debut in Sunday’s 2-2 Scottish Premiership draw at Dundee.

Scott struggled for game time on Humberside due to injuries and the Tigers are keen to get him playing regularly at a good level.

Jack Ross suggested over the weekend that the move could be made permanent depending on how things go.

But that seemingly works both ways, with McCann suggesting that Scott could be back at Hull in the new year if the club decide to bring him back early.

He told BBC Humberside: “I think for us in terms of protecting our asset, it's important James Scott plays football, so I think it suits both parties that he goes and plays football – he’s going to a good manager in Jack Ross, a big team in Hibs.

“I’m hoping he can go there and get his confidence back and show people what he’s about, and maybe we’ll see him again come January.”

McCann acknowledged that Scott hadn’t had any luck since his £1.5million switch from Fir Park and remains highly thought of at his parent club, who certainly haven’t given up on him having an impact.

He added: “He’s been really unfortunate here, he really has and we think highly of him. We feel as if he’s going to have a big future at the football club.

“When he picked up the injury in the first 25 minutes of his first training session, it robbed him and we didn’t see him again until the back end of that season.

“He picked another injury up at the beginning of last season on the same ankle which in turn robbed him of showing everybody what he was about, and that’s where he is.

“He picked up Covid again last season, he missed quite a bit because he was quite bad from it, so it’s been a stop-start time in his Hull City spell so far.”
