The James Monro pub changing its name and undergoing a dramatic transformation

One of the city’s most renowned pubs, The James Monro , is undergoing a lot of change this year.

Not only will the building have a major revamp but the pub will officially change its name.

Last year co-owners Billy and James Montgomery-Coughlin, from Vauxhall, took over the pub and decided to transform it into a LGBT+ bar and Cabaret club.

Speaking to the ECHO , Billy said that the new name is in homage to the resident performer Kitty Litter and that the name change reflects the new direction in which its heading.

The Tithebarn Street pub will now be called Kitty’s Show Bar.

The management team posted the news on Facebook, alongside a CGI image of what the revamp will look like.

Kitty’s Show Bar will be decorated on the outside in rainbow colours and on the inside there will refurbishment including new ladies and gents toilets.

Billy and James are also keen that the city pub is known as a community pub and a place that everyone in the community is welcome.

Billy said: “We also run the pub as a community led bar with lots of locals supporting it as well.

“We have lots of groups using the bar for meetings and social evenings.”
