JAGUAR is giving I-PACE customers a free update that will boost the real-world range of the award-winning all-electric SUV.
Engineers at the premium British marque have used technical insights from the I-PACE eTROPHY race series to develop the software upgrade.
The international motorsport competition puts the electric car through extreme use conditions and the first season yielded critical information about the durability and thermal control of the battery and torque management systems.
Now the technology tweaks for the road-going vehicles will optimise the management of the battery, temperature control and all-wheel-drive systems.
The engineers also analysed data from more than 50million miles of real journeys around the globe to enhance regenerative braking efficiency and ensure more accurate range calculation for drivers.
The I-PACE officially has a range of up to 292 miles from a single charge of its 90kWh lithium-ion battery while offering a sports car performance of 0-60mph in just 4.5 seconds.
Jaguar says the changes will give customers a real-world range improvement of up to eight per cent dependent on usage – which equates to a potential extra 12 miles.
Customers going to Jaguar dealers for the update will also find they get enhanced “Software Over The Air” functionality. This means more electronic modules will be able to receive remote updates, providing ongoing enhancements to the customer experience.
I-PACE vehicle engineering manager Stephen Boulter said: “It really is a case of the vehicle getting better with age.”
