Jags select Kentucky edge rusher Josh Allen with No. 7 pick

After months of anticipation, the Jacksonville Jaguars have made their first-round selection, taking Kentucky edge rusher Josh Allen with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft.

Allen, 21, finished his career in Kentucky as a senior and started in 35 games and played in 51. He had a career total of 224 tackles (41 for loss) and 31.5 sacks; in 2018 he tallied 88 tackles and 17 sacks. He also was named a first-team Associated Press All-American and first-team All-SEC.

Many thought Allen was a top-three talent, so his small slide made it an easy decision for Tom Coughlin and the Jacksonville brass. With Yannick Ngakoue and Calais Campbell already on the edge, Allen could make life a little harder for opposing quarterbacks as the Jags will probably look to let him put his hand in the dirt and move around for mismatches.
