The Jack Grealish transfer mistake that could cost Tottenham £80m

Jamie O'Hara has urged Tottenham to sign Jack Grealish although admitted he's not worth Aston Villa's £80million asking fee.

The Villa skipper is in demand after an impressive season in the Premier League where he scored eight goals and registered six assists as his boyhood club narrowly escaped an immediate return to the Championship.

Manchester United have been long-term admirers of Grealish but are focussing their attention on a move for Jadon Sancho.

With Villa retaining their Premier League status, reports state they are asking for £80million if they're to sell their prized asset.

Spurs have also held an interest in Grealish dating back to Mauricio Pochettino's time in charge but their failure to secure a deal then means any potential move for the player now would likely come at a far heftier cost.

Former Spurs midfielder O'Hara thinks a move to Tottenham would be an ideal fit for both parties but admitted Grealish isn't worth the excessive asking price, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic's effect on the transfer market.

"I really like him, he's had a great season," he told talkSPORT.

"I think it would be brilliant for Spurs if I'm honest.

"I think we should have got him a season ago when he was probably a lot cheaper.

"I don't know if Spurs have got the money, maybe if they're offloading a couple.

"He would be great - does he stay at Villa? I think now it's time for him to step up.

"If he wants to be that England player and be in that squad in a weekly basis - I think he needs to move to a team that is going to be up near the top six.

"He's not worth £80 million, I love him and think he's a great footballer.

"But £80m in the current market? No chance."
