The Jack Colback news Nottingham Forest fans will not want to read on deadline day

Midfielder Jack Colback is NOT a transfer deadline day target for Nottingham Forest.

Reports had suggested the Reds were expected to hold talks with Newcastle United today about potentially re-signing the 29-year-old, who has had two successful loan spells at the City Ground.

But Nottinghamshire Live understands Colback will not be making a return to the banks of the River Trent, with the Magpies man no longer on the Reds’ target list.

Forest had held an interest in re-signing the player earlier in the summer – prior to the managerial change which saw Sabri Lamouchi replace Martin O’Neill at the helm.

But the finances involved in securing the former Sunderland man’s signature were not straight forward.

The arrival of Steve Bruce as boss at St James’ Park had also seemingly offered Colback a fresh start in the north east.

However, it has since been reported he has been told he is free to leave ahead of Newcastle naming a 25-man Premier League squad by the end of the week.

Forest have made 10 signings so far this summer – nine since Lamouchi took over the reins – and they are expected to bolster their ranks further before the window closes at 5pm today.
