The Ivy is a step closer to opening in Glasgow this summer

Upmarket eatery The Ivy is one step closer to opening in Glasgow city centre.

Plans for a Glasgow branch of the iconic London spot have long rumbled on, with an application approved for the former Nationwide bank building on Buchanan Street.

The Ivy Collection had promised an opening date of spring 2019 for 106 Buchanan Street/1 Royal Bank Place - and although that deadline has been pushed back, we may soon be enjoying al fresco Ivy cocktails on the bustling city centre street.

Given that the original branch is one of London’s best known restaurants, and a celebrity hangout that has welcomed the likes of Laurence Olivier, Dame Maggie Smith and Madonna, we can’t wait to see what they do with the ornate Buchanan Street building.

According to the planning application, the restaurant will be built over three floors and offer more than 170 covers, as well as the possibility of outdoor seating.
