The items Tesco, Aldi, Waitrose and other major UK supermarkets are rationing due to coronavirus stockpiling

If you've been shopping in the UK recently, you may have noticed certain shelves were emptier than usual.

For more than 10 days, shops in Bristol have seen products selling out at a faster rate than usual.

Boots started limiting some hand gel products to two per person on March 1 , while other supermarkets have also seen their shelves emptied.

Dozens of stores across our city have run low of hand sanitiser, toilet rolls and baked beans as people panic buy due to coronavirus.

As a result, some supermarkets are rationing products.

The move comes as the number of cases in the UK soared to more than 300 with five deaths reported.

These are the restrictions all of the major supermarkets have in place, according to the Mirror.

Aldi

  • Hand sanitiser

Aldi has limited its hand sanitiser sales to two per person - however there are currently no other restrictions on products.

An Aldi employee told Bristol Live they have seen the number of tinned items bought soar over the past week.

They said: "I witnessed a customer yesterday buy half of the conveyor belt worth of tins, rice, pasta and noodles.

"I did notice a lot of customers were buying a lot of tinned foods.

"Also the demand for antibacterial hand sanitiser is crazy.

"We’ve ran out of hand sanitiser and we only have a few on the till for staff and they even had a customer try and take one.

"Not to mention, we’ve been twice as busy as usual."

Asda

  • Hand sanitiser

Hand sanitiser restricted to two per person both in-store and online, although many anti-bacterial products are out of stock online.

  • Anti-bacterial wipes, gels and sprays - five item limit

  • Longlife milk - five-item limit

The grocer told the Mirror this list is being "continuously reviewed".

On the supermarket giant's website, shoppers are told they have reached a five-item limit when trying to order the products.

A Bristol Tesco worker posted on Reddit: "The shelves have been cleared of various products with a long shelf life.  Stuff like pasta, long life milk and canned foods,  hand sanitiser, wipes and anti-bac sprays were cleared too. Paracetamol aisle decimated.

"Not sure what the rest of Bristol and the rest of the UK is like, but in my area people sure are panicking."

Waitrose

  • Antibacterial soaps and wipes - online only

A spokeswoman told the Mirror: "In-store, we are currently not putting a cap on any products.

"We have introduced a temporary cap on certain products on Waitrose.com including some antibacterial soaps and wipes, to ensure our customers have access to the products they need. We continue to work with suppliers to help meet demand."
