Set between Federation and the first world war, the Ishmael Club tells the story of a group of artists – Norman Lindsay, Will Dylson and Ruby Lind – who constituted Melbourne’s Bohemia. In the centre of Victorian Melbourne, they established themselves as outsiders: political satirists, rivals and artists.
Fuelled by red wine and the possibilities of art, held court on topics from the price of beer in China to the future of the Soul. The story is told by the women who witnessed them as they were drawn across the streets of Melbourne to the strikes of London and the trenches of the Great War.
