If you look around Swansea city centre you are almost guaranteed to spot two tall cranes towering up into the sky.
The two huge cranes can be seen over the centre of Swansea .
Located in Kings Roads in SA1, they dominate the skyline.
And the reason behind them is down to a huge new development.
After a lengthy planning wrangle and a change of site owner, this £45 million development on the banks of the River Tawe will eventually be home to 645 students.
The Crown Student Living scheme will be nine storeys at its highest, and host a gym, small cinema and canteen.
It will cater mainly for overseas students, and be completed by September, 2021.
Plans to redevelop areas of Swansea
Swansea’s planning committee approved the development , with five councillors voting in favour of the officers’ recommendation, one objecting and three abstaining in November, 2018.
The committee had turned down the development — then comprising 591 rooms — in August, 2018, but the decision was deferred amid warnings of appeal costs, so that more discussions could take place about issues such as parking and rubbish collection.
The building will also have 27 parking spaces and be managed by a company called CRM Students.
