'The irony' - Tottenham reportedly in running for Antonio Conte has Manchester United fans talking

Following Spurs' 3-0 defeat to Manchester United, the pressure on Nuno Espirito Santo elevated with emergency meetings reportedly being held in North London and Antonio Conte said to be sounded out, days after he expressed his availability to succeed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The former Wolves manager was booed on two occasions during the clash with United, and home fans were up in arms after he replaced Lucas Moura with Steven Bergwijn. Tottenham were jeered off as the travelling Reds were elated with the display.

Despite winning manager of the month in his first month in charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs' form has dramatically dipped.

In the aftermath of the 5-0 thrashing to the hands of Liverpool, Solskjaer faced intense scrutiny surrounding his position in charge.

Some fans enjoyed the reports of Conte being linked with the possible vacancy at Spurs whilst others took the opportunity to aim a dig at the struggling Londoners.

The former Inter Milan head coach professed his openness to take charge at the Theatre of Dreams but the Norwegian maintained his place in power and masterminded the Reds' victory on Saturday evening.

It allowed some temporary respite for Solskjaer and he will take charge of the clash against Atalanta in midweek as United look to extend their lead at the top of Group F in the Champions League.

Though Conte was open to the move to the North West, he received no formal contact from the club representatives with Manchester United uncertain about the former Chelsea boss.

Graeme Souness was critical of Nuno's side as they barely put up a fight as Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford inflicted more misery on Harry Kane and co.

"They’ve had a horrible week. I mean you take a victory no matter how it comes - this was a perfect game for Man U. Come here, Spurs are toothless, that stats tell you that," Souness said on Sky Sports.

"Not a shot on target. They're relying on the people with a spark - Harry Kane, Son, Moura - none of them did that today. They all look a shadow of what they’ve been in the recent past.

"They’re toothless, they're toothless. It might be harsh but the stats tell you that. Yeah, they've had 58 per cent of the ball today, done nothing with it. They were very, very average today Spurs."
