The Iron Trial is the first and latest instalment of the five book series, Magisterium by Cassandra Clare and Holly Black. It follows Callum Hunt, or Call, who, apart from having a fairly bad leg, lives a completely ordinary life – he goes to school, loves skateboarding and is often found peering through the windows of the comic book store, the arcade and the video game store.
Though not all is as it seems…
All his life Call's father has taught him never to trust a magician, though Call never quite understood why. Nearly everyone Callum's age would give anything if it would allow them to have the talent for magic that is required to join the Magisterium, the place where Mages are able to learn to use and control their powers… but first they must pass The Iron Trial.
Calls father desperately wants Call to fail the test to keep him safe, and, despite the fact that Call tries his very best to do the opposite of what the masters ask of him, he fails at failing.
He now must enter the Magisterium – the one place his father warned him about – and, together with his new friends Aaron and Tamara, discover what was so bad that made his father want to keep him away from there.
This is an incredible book. There are so many moments that will leave you surprised, shocked and even a little scared! The different characters are great – some you love, some you despise – and there are so many unexpected plot-twists its hard to keep count! The book draws you in and, once you've started reading, its hard to put the book down. Its awesome! Its full of suspense and I cannot wait for the next book in the series to be released!
It tests friendship, trust and bravery in this amazing book of discovery, adventure and magic.
