The trailer for the eagerly anticipated horror thriller The Invisible Man didn’t spoil the entire movie, its director has claimed.
Leigh Whannel, who co-created the Saw franchise, said that the backlash to the film’s trailer wasn’t entirely earned.
“It is a very predictable reaction these days from people online,” he told Digital Spy. “What’s the classic quote? ‘Thanks a lot, guys. You saved me 15 bucks, and I don’t even need to see the movie anymore’.”
“You may think you've seen it all but you haven’t,” Whannel added.
The Invisible Man stars Elisabeth Moss as a terrified woman who is convinced her abusive boyfriend has faked his own suicide and mastered the art of invisibility in order to stalk her.
The film’s trailer was met with claims that it gave away too much of the film’s plot, including what appeared to be the movie’s climactic confrontation.
“You have to reveal enough that people are going to want to go see the movie,” the film’s producer Jason Blum said, “but not too much that having seen the trailer will negatively impact your experience of seeing the movie. That’s a very fine line.”
A reboot of the classic Universal Pictures monster, The Invisible Man has received mixed reviews from critics, but overwhelming praise for Moss.
The film is released in cinemas on 28 February.
