The interesting choice a national magazine made when choosing Bristol Rovers' best player

Four Four Two magazine have labelled Liam Sercombe as Bristol Rovers' best player.

As part of the highly-regarded magazine's feature on the best players in the EFL, they produced a separate list of the best players at every club not featured in the original list of 51.

That included the Gas, with the magazine picking Sercombe as their star man.

Liam Sercombe of Bristol Rovers is challenged by Elvis Bwomono of Southend United (Ryan Hiscott/JMP)

They said: "In a tough season for the Gas, Sercombe has often been seen labouring on the wing, but his performances in the centre remain solid."

It is a choice that is sure to prompt some debate among Gas fans.

Sercombe was named the Gas' player of the year award last season, but his form has been more mixed in this campaign, netting four goals in 42 appearances.

Magazine deadlines probably meant Jonson Clarke-Harris' superb run of form was overlooked for the magazine, but arguments could be made for both Jack Bonham and Tom Lockyer after solid seasons by the duo.

With the Gas' award evening on Wednesday night, we will soon find out which player the club has deemed to be most impressive this season.
