The inspiring act of kindness by a Wales rugby player as he responds brilliantly to coronavirus crisis

Just like the rest of us, rugby players have their own concerns right now as they battle to find a safe path through the coronavirus emergency.

But, wonderfully, some of them are going the extra mile or three for the vulnerable around them.

Wales and Scarlets forward Rob Evans is one such individual.

Via social media, the 39-times capped prop has put out an offer to help the elderly in the area where he lives and anyone else who needs assistance during these difficult times.

“Just want to say to anyone around the Pembrokeshire area, I’m off training so if any of the elderly or anyone needs help with getting food or whatever just let me know,” wrote Evans.

“Here to help.”

The 27-year-old west Walian is renowned for being the joker in the Wales and Scarlets’ set-ups, the man with a liking for wind-ups and banter.

But, evidently, he has a big-hearted side and Twitter rose to applaud him, with his offer receiving 2,400 likes as of Thursday morning.

Others in the rugby community are also coming to the fore during the Covid-19 crisis, among them former Scotland international Tim Visser.

He wrote to his neighbours: “My name is Tim Visser and I live over the road…In light of the current coronavirus situation I’m aware some of you may have been advised to self-isolate.

“If at any point I can be of assistance, please don’t hesitate to call or text me.”

A phone number was offered for those in need to ring him.

Coronavirus may be testing communities the length and breadth of the land. But kind offers and acts, like those of Evans and Visser, are helping the vulnerable when they most need it.
