The injury boost for Steve Bruce ahead of training this week and his verdict on Darlow and Woodman

Martin Dubravka is expected to be back in training in the next week after recovering from a foot operation.

The Slovakia international missed the whole of pre-season and is yet to appear in the Premier League this term.

But head coach Steve Bruce is pleased with his progress and expects another goalkeeping poser soon.

Bruce said: "Thankfully, the wound that was badly infected has gone. He's coming along nicely.

"He’s hoping he’ll be back on the grass next week, so that’s a bit of good news."

Bruce was also full of praise for Karl Darlow after the former Nottingham Forest stopper made his return against Leeds in Friday's 1-1 draw and put in a strong performance.

He said: "I’m pleased for him. ’I'm pleased to see him fit and healthy because a few weeks ago, he was in a desperately poorly situation.

"First and foremost, good to see him back as a goalkeeper, more importantly, his health is good, fortunately for him and us.

"I think he proved what a good goalkeeper he is."

When explaining Freddie Woodman's absence against Leeds, Bruce also added: "Unfortunately, Freddie hurt himself on Wednesday diving in a shooting drill, so the decision was easy.

"Freddie hasn’t made it. He wasn’t quite ready."
