How to make incredible 'galaxy' fudge at home

People across the UK have attempted to learn new skills amid the Covid-19 lockdown, and baking has been a popular one.

If you're one of the many who has tried to emulate the skills of Paul Hollywood or Mary Berry in the kitchen, we've got the perfect recipe for you.

While there's no question banana bread and chocolate brownies are both delicious, neither of them - or any baking creation for that matter - look as cool as this galaxy-inspired fudge.

A home cook has shared how to make the stunning and tasty treat to the Facebook group  Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, and her recipe was picked up by Manchester Evening News.

It'll certainly impress the kids, and anyone else for that matter - and the big trick of it all: it's made in the slow cooker.

It is pretty simple to make for yourself but there are a few ingredients you need to pick up when you visit the supermarket for your essentials.

These are the ingredients you need to make incredible galaxy fudge:

  • 500g cheap white chocolate
  • 1 tin sweetened condensed milk (397g) (NOT evaporated milk)
  • 15g unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 4 tubes Smarties
  • 1 Bag Milky Bar Mini Eggs.
  • Some coloured sugar for topping
  • Some sugared stars for topping
  • Blue, green, violet and pink food colouring paste

The steps are easy to follow and you start by chucking all of your white chocolate, condensed milk, butter and vanilla extract into your slow cooker.

Then pop the mix on high and leave the lid off. It will take around 45 minutes in total until it's ready for the next ingredients and you need to give it a stir every 15 minutes.

According to the post "it should have a slight filmy crust on when you mix it".

Next you need to add in the Smarties - and to really go to town on the colours, "add your food colouring, (less is more here and don't over stir, you want to keep the colours from muddying together!), and swirl the colours through your mixture."

Once that is done you need to pour the mixture onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

Then get a bit creative and get the kids involved as you decorate the top with stars, coloured sugar, mini eggs, leftover Smarties and whatever else you could possibly find.

Once you have done that you need to let it cool for 30 minutes.

But before temptation gets the better of you and you tuck in, it needs to be put in the fridge for at least three to four hours.

The advice is that the longer it is being cooled in the fridge, the more fudge-like it becomes, and that's just what we want.

"I like to take mine out around 2 hours, cut into squares (as it's much easier) then pop into a storage container and back into the fridge," the post adds.

"You can also totally use any other chocolate for toppings and add ins."

We're certainly giving this a go.
