The Inbetweeners co-stars Hannah Tointon and Joe Thomas welcome first child

It seems congratulations are in order for Hannah Tointon - the sister of former Strictly star Kara - who has welcomed her first child with long-term fiancé and her The Inbetweeners co-star Joe Thomas.

The happy couple met on the set of the Channel 4 show in its third series in 2010 after Hannah, 34, played Joe's character Simon's on-screen girlfriend. The news of their happy arrival was announced by Kara, 39, as she featured on Ashley James' popular podcast Mum's The Word.

The former EastEnders actress revealed the new parents were “knocked for six” when the baby boy they were expecting turned out to be a girl. It seems this shock came as a result of an ultra-sound technician describing the baby as “he” during an appointment.

During the podcast episode, Kara - who recently split from her fiance of five years, Marius Jensen, with whom she shares two children - said: “My sister's just had her first. What's funny is that on Joe's side there's only boys, even during the scan they accidentally said 'he' at one point, so they'd gone along thinking it's a boy.

“Everyone playing the shape game etc said she's having a boy, so when they eventually had a girl...it was really brilliant, but it knocked them for six. So, they hadn't even decided on a girls' name. They left it as a surprise.”

The Mr Selfridge star and Joe have been together for 10 years after appearing on the sitcom together and it seems they have gone from strength to strength - and even continue to work together on screen.

The couple, who got engaged in 2017, appeared in the film The Festival together in 2018 and, speaking to Lorraine at the time, Joe said of working with his soon-to-be-wife, as reported by The Mirror: "I've just got used to it, she's just in everything because my brain is so simple, I was just like 'Yep, there she is! It went very well, I think."
