The impressive Christmas house covered in decorations including a snow machine

It's the most wonderful time of the year, Christmas.

Families across Swansea, and all over Wales are going bigger and better than ever to celebrate the holiday.

But one house in Morriston has gone above and beyond with their display which is lighting up the street.

Kaz John, 35, spent three weeks preparing her house for the festive season, and has more lights up than ever before.

Kaz said: "The response has been amazing. Christmas is all about joy. Shining a little light in these dark times helps release the great joy from within. Quite a few have commented on how it has helped them feel a bit of Christmas.

"The lights took me three weeks to put up. We did have more, but the storm (Arwen) had other ideas.

"We've been doing the lights for years and each year it's got a little bigger. We've added the grotto area this year where people can have their pictures taken.

"The display was only finished at the weekend and I've already had people queuing."

This year's decorations at the house on Gwernfadog Road include a big inflatable polar bear, nutcracker and light up deer, as well as Santa in his sleigh.

Last year Kaz started using the lights to raise money for Children's hospice, Tŷ Hafan.

She hopes this year she will be able to top last year's total of £700.

"The donations are already close to £200, and this year there are so many local businesses supporting the cause.

"I just want to make it the most magical Christmas for the children who might not have another one. If my lights bring just a bit of Christmas cheer I'll be happy.

"These children have life-limiting conditions so I want to help make it special and for them to benefit from the display of lights and also their families this Christmas. "

Kaz is holding competitions to help raise money, as well as having a donations box outside.

"It was suggested last year to me that I should consider a box outside my house to help keep up with the electricity costs.

"I've always had Christmas lights outside and I'm not out to make money of it as I really wouldn't want it that way.

"This year I will be doing a guess the number of lights that local businesses have supported and donated prizes. I will be asking for £2 donation per guess. If there's more people than prizes I have been donated and people have guessed correctly I will do a live stream of all the names in a hat."

Prizes so far include two 'grandslam' breakfasts with tea or own brand coffee from Calon Lan Coffi-Caffi, two fish and chips from TheCodfather at PGF, and 12 cupcakes from Muffin Top Cakery.

The lights will be switched on from around 3pm to 9pm every week day throughout December and until 11pm on the weekend all the way up to Christmas Eve.

Kaz has also arranged for elves from Ohana Events to come down to the garden for one night only.

The company said " We are so excited to announce that our elf will be here Saturday December 11 at 5.30pm, to help Kaz raise money for Tŷ Hafan! We at Ohana think it's amazing and our elf can't wait to see all the lights.

"Please join us to help raise as much as we can, there will be fun and a little bit of mischief for all!"
