The Impossibles say farewell

It's been 52 years since The Impossibles kicked off their first show in Bangkok. The string combo of the 1970s had performed at leading nightclubs across the city and also toured Europe. Many of their early hits remain popular. However, next week the band will bid farewell, with what they say will be their official last concert.

"The End Of The IM" will be held at the Royal Paragon Hall of Siam Paragon, on Oct 30 at 7pm. The concert will feature the remaining three members of the original lineup of six: Setha Sirichaya (lead vocals), Vinai Phanturak (acoustic guitar and vocals) and Pichai Thongniem (bass), who will be joined by Yongyut Meesang (trumpet) who regularly performed with the band during its heyday.

Also called The IM, The Impossibles was among the first Thai pop bands to cover Western songs, and was the first Thai rock band to record an English-language album overseas. They also performed in a Thai film that became a huge success and produced soundtracks for many other movies.

This will be the last full-scale concert held to officially announce the permanent split-up of the legendary band. The group formerly disbanded in 1977 but the members remained active in music and frequently reunited to perform together over the years. Their major reunion concert in 2001 was also warmly embraced by fans.

The show will feature a repertoire of 30 songs carefully selected by the trio with the aim to take their fans back in time to the good old days.

Tickets cost 2,000, 2,500, 3,000 and 3,500 baht, and can be purchased from Thai Ticket Major (visit thaiticketmajor.com or call 02-262-3456).
