The importance of choosing the right face mask

Facemasks have easily become a key part of our wardrobe that is here to stay, so it’s not surprising that 1 in 5 style-conscious Brits are worried about sacrificing style for safety. In fact, 10% of us admit to co-ordinating our mask with our outfit.

The surge has also altered our beauty habits, with 16% of us worried they will give us bad skin, now known as ‘Maskne.’ 15% admitted they now wear less makeup on areas not covered by their mask and a further 25% wear less makeup only in the areas that are covered, with those including more eyeshadow (53%), mascara (47%) and 16% relying on earrings to jazz up their look.

Face masks are not going anywhere soon, so it’s important to find the right mask for you. Especially for those commuting or those with flights to catch - 18% of us find disposable masks uncomfortable for long haul journeys and 60% of us across the UK are opting for sustainable fabric options to avoid adding to single-use waste issues.

With Lockdown 2.0 now upon us and recent testing showing that the most effective face masks are those with several layers, it’s important to find the right mask to control the spread of the virus…though this can be overwhelming when there’s so many now available.

Rather worryingly, 65% of Brits think only some of the masks available for purchase are safe, which considering 82% of us are not exempt from wearing one in public, is concerning. A further 1 in 4 (25%) of us believe that any material can be used for a mask and it will still offer the same safety and protection, however, sadly this isn’t the case.

The research comes as 15% of Brits wrongly believe that vented masks are not as safe as non-vented masks, and with masks now mandatory in all public areas and new face mask myths flying around, it is no wonder that there is confusion on which masks are the safest.

AusAir facemasks were engineered in Sydney to originally combat bushfires and have been independently tested by a leading FDA registered lab to provide protection up to 99% from Air pollution including PM0.1, Bacteria and Viruses, Pollen, dust and germs and Organic Odours and Vapours.
