The impatient motorists who will now be prosecuted for using M60 hard shoulder

Motorists who used the hard shoulder of the M60 to bypass traffic caused by a serious crash will be prosecuted, police say.

There was a large tailbacks going anti-clockwise on the motorway near Junction 8 for Carrington at around 8pm on Sunday evening.

North West Motorway Police said they were dealing with a 'serious' road traffic collision.

All lanes were blocked and traffic held.

But while most drivers waited and gave the emergency services space to deal with the incident, some showed a shocking lack of consideration.

Police patrols tweeted this morning that 15 motorists 'thought it was OK to drive along the hard shoulder past the patient motorists'.

Images of the 15 vehicles were shared by police with number plates and the driver's identity blacked out.

The cars appeared to include high-end BMWs, Mercedes and Audis.

Police vowed that all will be prosecuted.

North West Motorway Police tweeted: "ME24, ME54, ME14 would like to thank all the patient motorists who were held up on the ACW M60 on 7th March at J8 whilst they dealt with a serious rtc, however, the 15 motorists who thought it was OK to drive along the hard shoulder past the patient motorists will be prosecuted.."
