The impact of Chelsea's Champions League success on Kai Havertz and Timo Werner transfer values

What started off as a difficult season for Kai Havertz and Timo Werner at Chelsea ended up being one they’ll both never forget.

Initially criticised for a lack of consistency in front of goal, the two played a big part in helping the Blues to win the Champions League for a second time.

Havertz in particular stepped up towards the end of the 2020/21 campaign, and he’ll forever go down in Chelsea folklore after scoring the game’s only goal in Porto as the Blues beat Manchester City 1-0 to lift the trophy.

Meanwhile, although Werner’s goalscoring numbers didn’t reach the heights expected of him after moving from RB Leipzig, Blues fans will be hoping that Thomas Tuchel can get the best out of him next season as his side aim to rival Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title.

And the good news doesn’t end there.

Having cost Chelsea nearly £120m combined last summer, the duo’s estimated transfer value has surged, which is certainly a healthy thing for the club.

Havertz, who cost £70m following his transfer from Bayer Leverkusen, now has a transfer value just shy of £100m (£99m), while Werner is reportedly worth £93m – a figure that is more than £40 million more than what they paid for him 12 months ago.

That is according to the CIES Football Observatory algorithm, which also estimates that teammate Mason Mount is the most valuable player currently playing in England’s capital.

Of course, there’s no intention on Chelsea's part to sell either of these stars at this moment in time - after all, they did just help Chelsea to win the biggest competition in Europe.

Indeed, Havertz, Mount and Werner are likely to continue to be key members of the Chelsea team under Thomas Tuchel next season.

But it is certainly good to know that the club could expect a significant return on their investments for Havertz and Werner, based on the latest figures, should they become the subject of interest.
