The impact Cristiano Ronaldo could have on Harry Kane's transfer away from Tottenham

Tottenham are determined to keep hold of star striker Harry Kane this month despite massive interest from Manchester City.

football.london understands that the north London club's stance on Kane has not changed throughout the summer transfer window: he is not for sale.

However, Man City have a strong interest in the 28-year-old, who missed Spurs' 1-0 win against the Premier League champions on Sunday afternoon due to a lack of preparation.

Pep Guardiola is keen to replace long-serving striker Sergio Aguero, who left the Etihad Stadium to join Barcelona on a free transfer earlier this summer.

Kane has been identified as City's priority signing, despite spending over £100million on Jack Grealish already.

But, according to Corriere dello Sport, via the Daily Mail, the Manchester-based club may have been offered an alternative to signing Kane.

The report from Italy claims that agent Jorge Mendes has offered his client, Cristiano Ronaldo, to Man City for just £25m.

The Portugal international, who is well renowned as one of the greatest footballers of all-time, has just 10 months left on his current contract with Juventus and has been linked with a move away from Turin this summer.

With Man City keen on a new world-class centre-forward, there are not many better in the sport than Ronaldo.

A move to the blue half of Manchester would be hugely controversial, due to the 36-year-old's past affiliation with United, but it is an option that has been proposed to City.

But there are set to be other options for Ronaldo, with Spanish news programme El Chiringuito, via the Mail, Real Madrid are looking at bringing CR7 back to the Spanish capital.

If Guardiola did choose to make a move for the four-time Ballon d'Or winner, then this could be good news for Tottenham in their attempts to keep Kane in N17 for the next season.

Ronaldo spoke about his future at Juventus earlier this summer but remained pretty coy on the speculation.

“I have been playing at the highest level for many years, this doesn’t faze me," Ronaldo said at a Portugal Euro 2020 press conference when asked about his future.

"Maybe if I was 18 or 19 I might have had some sleepless nights, but I'm 36. Whatever comes will be for the best regardless of staying at Juve or being transferred.

“The crucial thing now is the Euros, it is my fifth Euros, but for me it’s like my first Euros. We want to play a good match with good thoughts from the first to the last match.”
