The Imagination Box by Martyn Ford is a book about a boy called Tim who lives with his foster parents in their hotel. One day, a scientist comes to the hotel and Tim finds out about the imagination box. When you put on a type of hat called a reader, you have the power to create whatever you imagine. But if you had that power, what would you create? In this story, follow Tim as he unlocks mysteries and goes on adventures. But will Tim use this power to his advantage and use it against others? Read and find out!
I loved this book because it gives you the urge to turn the page and read on. The chapters were quite long but at a pace that made the story progress fluently. I enjoyed finding out about the inventions and how they worked. There was one quotation – “He whisked the sheet off his invention. The crowd watched on, silent now…” – that made me want to continue on. The story didn’t have any illustrations in so you had to imagine what everything looked like just like Tim did in the story.
I think the book is a great read for both boys and girls. It wasn’t aimed at either. The objects were described so that you could understand it but still uniquely picture it in your mind how you personally want to. As I was reading I got more into the characters and felt different ways towards different figures. Some of the characters might have seemed bad but could turn out alright in the end or vice versa.
I liked how the events could appear out of nowhere and you could get sucked into the adventure with Tim and the people he met along the way. I give it a 4 star rating, great story but quite long chapters.
