Feb. 03--You might remember them from "America's Got Talent."
The Illusionists, a group of seven tricksters who perform a wide spectrum of magic acts, will showcase their wizardry Wednesday through Sunday at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa. The show opened Tuesday.
Kevin James, nicknamed "The Inventor," is an award-winning magician who had long performance runs at venues such as Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
He has created several illusions, including the "Floating Rose," in which a paper napkin is folded into a paper rose and the flower stands up by itself. The floating rose is then lit on fire and, in a flash, changes into a real rose.
"Magic is beautiful," James said in an interview. "Magic breaks all kinds of barriers. It's just fun to watch, and I want families of all generations to enjoy themselves."
James' six co-stars include "The Escapologist" Andrew Basso, who calls legendary illusionist and stunt performer Harry Houdini his hero and performs Houdini's Water Torture Cell with no covers.
Other performers are "The Trickster," "The Deceptionist," "The Manipulator," "The Anti-Conjuror" and "The Weapon Artist."
The Illusionists will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 1 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Segerstrom Center, 600 Town Center Drive. Tickets start at $25.
