The Ianis Hagi Rangers learning curve that can put youngster on the path to success

Romania legend Gheorghe Hagi believes Rangers is the perfect place for his son to develop after frustrating spells with Gent and Fiorentina.

The 21-year-old joined Steven Gerrard's squad on transfer deadline day, moving from the Belgian club on loan with an option to buy.

His famous father, who played for the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Galatasaray, believes the Scottish Premiership could be the perfect place for his son to show what he can do.

Hagi senior said: "Like any father, like any parent, when you see your child playing and doing really well, it's even better. But what is important for any young player is to play.

"I'm glad he's found a manager and a club like Rangers that have allowed him the opportunity to do that.

"He's a young player and he's learning a lot there in Scotland. He's not the finished article - he's not 29 or 30 years old, he is still learning all the time.

"The advice I gave him before he went to Rangers was that all that that's happened to him in Belgium will help make him better. If you experience a negative situation anywhere, you learn from it.

"He is learning every day in football and in life. The good thing about him is that he's very open to new ideas and wants to learn. He's open to new ideas, loves training and loves football.

"Ianis is not one of those kids who thinks he knows it all."
