The Ianis Hagi Rangers contract clause that incentivises star to follow in dad Gheorghe's footsteps

Rangers star Ianis Hagi has been given a financial incentive to play for Romaina and qualify for the World Cup or European Championships according to a report from his homeland.

Should the skillful midfielder follow in his father's footsteps and make a splash in a major international tournament then Rangers will compensate the star as part of the deal that enticed him to Glasgow.

The 21-year-old signed from Genk in a £3m move last month after a successful loan spell that saw him make an instant impact on the club.

He scored twice as Rangers memorably came back from a two goals deficit to win in the Europa League last 32 against Portuguese side Braga at Ibrox.

Romanian website Sport RO is reporting that Hagi receives a £1m annual salary at Ibrox before a slew of potential bonuses are added.

These include additional payments for goals scored, appearances, wins, trophies, European qualification, loyalty and international recognition.

Hagi will have the opportunity to earn more when Romania face Iceland in the Euro 2020 pay-offs when they are eventually rescheduled.

The winners of the match will face Hungary or Bulgaria for a place in the elite tournament to be held in the summer of 2021.
