Woman thought she'd spotted 'I'm a Celebrity' 2020 camp near Welsh Reservoir

Images have appeared which the person who took them thought showed 'base camp' for this year's 'I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here' in North Wales.

It follows unconfirmed rumours that the ITV show will be broadcast from Wales in 2020, rather than the normal Australia, as a result of issues with overseas travel caused by coronavirus.

Gwrych Castle has been at the centre of the rumours, which were fuelled earlier this week when the castle posted on its Facebook page: "Gwrych Castle and Estate will be temporarily closing to the public at 5pm on Sunday 23rd August until New Year.

"Keep checking our website and social media for updates."

But the new images were taken around 20 miles away at Llyn Brenig on the Denbigh Moors, reports North Wales Live.

They were taken by Caroline George, who goes by the name of @girlygolfer2013 on Twitter. She saw a number of huts at the location, and suggested they were 'base camp' for the show, which sees celebrities camp together for several weeks and taking part in various challenges, including eating grubs and crawling through tunnels filled with snakes and spiders.

Ms George also saw security vans and TV production going into the site on the north-western edge of the reservoir there.

It follows reports access to the reservoir is restricted while filming takes place. The restrictions are said to be in place for a number of weeks.

“We parked in the outside top end of the reservoir, so there were very few people around. You also can’t see them [the huts] from the visitor centre,” said Ms George.

But WalesOnline now understands the site is not linked to 'I'm a Celebrity'. More details of its actual purpose are expected to be revealed on Monday, August 24.

Manorafon Farm Park in Abergele has also been linked with this year's show - hosted by Ant and Dec.

It said it had “very recently” been approached to provide an unnamed organisation with exclusive use of the site for two months during September and October.

ITV is yet to confirm the location of the 2020 show, but has stated that it will be in the UK.
