The husband and wife team taking on the big players with their Eat Me takeaway delivery service

A husband and wife team have taken on the big players and launched a takeaway delivery service.

Kate and Ashley Butcher have launched an app called Eat Me which allows people to book deliveries from 99p.

Kate said she worked on the idea while she was stuck at her home in Earl Shilton, Leicestershire, during the lockdown, looking after her daughter who suffers with diabetes.

She was restricted where she could go to get essential shopping, so called on the experience of Ashley, who works in logistics and deliveries around Leicestershire.

The new business is connected to Loughborough-based cab company ADT and also arranges deliveries of things such as beer and wine, fresh fruit, veg and meat and even pet food.

Kate has 15 years background in retail, visiting small and independent shops, so was aware how desperate they would be to keep selling their products - but how tricky the infrastructure might be to do that.

She worked on the smartphone idea - which offers outlets a free delivery service - from her living room, hosting Zoom meetings with app developers, website creators and retailers to get all elements connected.

She came up with the branding and marketing in a matter of weeks, and is now trying to build the business on the back of eye-catching social media channels.

She said: “The Eat Me story has only been going for 10 weeks, was totally conceived and executed during the Covid19 outbreak, and now will be a big part of the local economic recovery.

“Pretty much anything can be ordered and delivered to your door with just a few clicks of your smartphone, and it’s fresh from local suppliers and retailers right here in Leicestershire.”
