The Hunt For Raoul Moat: Samantha Stobbart's account of what happened

From the producers behind The Pembrokeshire Murders, Line of Duty and Vigil, ITV's latest true crime drama The Hunt For Raoul Moat focuses on the human tragedies that lay behind Britain’s biggest manhunt told through the eyes of those who sought to bring a violent killer to justice.

The manhunt, which happened back in 2010, saw Moat go on the run for more than a week after shooting three people in 24 hours. Moat shot his ex-partner Samantha Stobbart and her new boyfriend Christopher Brown before shooting PC David Rathband and heading on the run. As the only surviving victim of Moat's terrible rampage, where is Samantha, portrayed by Sally Messham in ITV's three-part series, now?

With such a strong body of work behind them, dramatising true stories, The Hunt For Raoul Moat is sure to make an impact. Let's find out all we need to know about the drama.

Where is Samantha Stobbart now?

Samantha’s interview with the Mirror in 2012 was the last time she spoke to the press about Moat and not a lot is known about her whereabouts now. But the new ITV documentary has brought back a lot of trauma for her family and she is still facing abuse to this day. "We're lucky our Sam survived. ITV don't realise the impact this will have on the people involved," Samantha's sister Kelly, 40, told the Mirror.

"It still gives me nightmares and I suffer PTSD. I'm so sick of hearing Raoul's name and I'm so sick of him being on TV."

What has Samantha said about Moat in the past?

She told the News of The World in 2010: "There was nothing I could do against a madman with a gun. I had to get back to the house to make sure my baby daughter Chanel was safe.

"I saw the sparks flying off Raoul's gun as he shot me. Then I was on the floor with blood pumping out everywhere."

On February 29, 2012, PC Rathband was found dead at his home in a suspected suicide, after struggling to come to terms with his blindness.

"I just kept thinking to myself: 'That's another life that Raoul's taken away'. Even when he's dead he is still hurting people," Samantha told the Mirror.

"I'm the only one left now. Sometimes I think this will only be finished when I die.

"I can't imagine how horrible it must be to lose your sight. But I do have an inkling of how he must have felt.

"I know how low I have felt and there were lots of times when I thought about suicide. I just thought: 'I can't do this any more'."

She added at the time that she wrote letters to boyfriend, Chris Brown, who Moat shot dead. And she said: "If I start putting myself in the position of a victim then Raoul has won and I don't want to let him win anymore. I'm going to get through this and not let him hurt me anymore."
