The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - Review

The Hunger Games is a dystopian novel about 16 year old Katniss Everdeen. Katniss lives in Panem in a world where every year twelve boys and twelve girls are picked to fight to the death.

Years ago, the Districts and the Capital of Panem went to war. The war ended and the Districts lost. But then the Districts rose up from the ashes to start a new life.

The Capital wanted the Districts to suffer and made the Hunger Games to show them the Capital could do anything to them, even take their children. Katniss lives in District 12, a very poor district. The only way Katniss can survive is by going out into the woods and hunting animals with her best friend Gale.

When Katniss's little sister is picked for the Hunger Games, she volunteers in her place. She sees a boy called Peeta being picked and she realises that she knows him. Peeta saved her life a few years ago when her family were starving.

She meets her mentor and her escort, Haymitch who is an alcoholic and Effie who is always wearing the Capital's latest fashions. As Katniss enters into the Hunger Games she meets Rue a twelve year old girl from District 11. Katniss, Rue and Peeta must try and survive this death sentence, and go back home to the districts.

This book is so amazing, it is the best book I have ever read.
