The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - review

The Hunger Games is without a doubt one of the best books I have ever read. It's so intense and action-packed but also quite tearful.

It is based in North America in the future where the Capitol rules over the 12 districts. Long ago there was a revolution against the Capitol and because of this, the Capitol holds 'The Hunger Games' once every year. This is when two children are chosen from each district to enter an arena and kill off all the other tributes (chosen children) until there is one remaining victor.

The main character is 16 year old Katniss Everdeen who lives with her younger sister and mother in district 12 (a mining district). Throughout the book there are so many scenes when you want to shout at her but also scenes where you urge her on. All the characters are well described, from Katniss with an unimaginably fiery temper to extremely kind Peeta, and the control freak Effie, to the clever, drunk Haymitch.

This is the first book of a trilogy and there is also a movie coming out so even if you don't like books you can go to the cinema. I recommend this to anyone- young or old, boy or girl. It is a truly fantastic book.
