The huge sky garden with bars and restaurants planned for the top of a Manchester car park

Plans have been submitted to transform the roof of a Manchester car park into a huge tropical sky garden, with three bars and eight restaurants.

Roofff could take up a large spot on the 10th floor of the Q-Park car park at First Street, with 360-degree views of the Manchester skyline.

CGIs of the space show that the existing tarmac will be covered with wooden decking and turf, while wooden pergolas overhead are draped in vines and hanging plants and flowers bloom from wooden standing tables.

The project comes from Buzz Ventures, a company that aims to transform unloved and forgotten spaces into drinking and dining venues.

The 11,000 sq ft site would have indoor seating for more than 400 diners, with an extra 250 seats outside on the open-air rooftop - and both air conditioning and heating to make it comfortable year-round.

The roof of the indoor section would be made from clear corrugated plastic, so even if the weather is less than favourable, revellers will be able to get the full rooftop experience.

A programme of live music and entertainment would accompany the panoramic views, which take in the Principal hotel, Palace Theatre, River Medlock and Oxford Road train station.

The eight restaurant kitchens in the planning application face out into the seating areas.

Diners can apparently expect a mix of Japanese cuisine, steaks, fresh seafood, all-day breakfasts and desserts.

If the plans are successful, a mixture of long communal tables and smaller booths and banquettes will make up the majority of the space, with bars both inside and out.

Roofff would be opening above the likes of Gasworks, Wood and Bunny Jackson's Juke Joint, with culture complex HOME next door.

Located within a few minutes' walk of Deansgate-Castlefield tram stop, and both Deansgate and Oxford Road train stations, it's in a prime spot for visitors to the city.

Although Roofff would take over a large portion of the Q-Park roof, there will still be car parking spaces alongside it, and 700+ secure spaces within the building.

The opening date is currently pencilled in for later this year, although it has yet to go before a planning committee.
