The huge new Stockport factory where armoured military vehicles will be built

The construction of a huge military engineering factory is near completion in Stockport.

Video footage captures the scale of the 5000m2, multi-million pound site owned by WFEL in Heaton Chapel.

The company has been contracted by Ministry of Defence (MoD) to build Boxer Mechanised Infantry Vehicles and military bridges.

Work on the site has almost finished, according to contractors, ACS Construction Group, which has released the site footage.

"The facility will play a key role in the UK Ministry of Defence's Boxer Programme where WFEL will manufacture a substantial portion of the British Army’s 500 new Boxer Mechanised Infantry Vehicles (MIVs)," an ACS spokesperson said.

WFEL announced that it had won the £46m MoD contract in October last year.

The Stockport-based military engineering firm will also supply its MGB Medium Girder Bridges, which it said will provide “continuing employment for 50 direct WFEL production-related personnel”.

The MGB contract will be fulfilled by December 2025, it said, with the first two bridging sets delivered to the UK MoD by December 2021.
