Premier League executives have reportedly been told that they will owe £762million in broadcast revenue if the season cannot be completed due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The Athletic state that all 20 clubs were told during the crisis meeting on Thursday at Premier League headquarters that the cost would come due to a breach of contract in terms agreed for domestic and international rights.
The suspension is said to be costing Sky huge amounts of money per day due to the pause they are offering customers in their sports subscription packages and a loss in advertising revenue.
Clubs are paid twice a year in August and February for broadcasting rights, meaning they only recently received the money due for the end of the season.
A number of clubs are said to be determined to have the season finished due to the financial implications of not completing their remaining games, with players' wages proving a significant drain on their accounts with no football taking place.
One solution would be to have all remaining games played behind closed doors with players tested for coronavirus regularly.
However, some clubs feel that is unrealistic and players could refuse to play if their health is put at risk, especially with the rest of the country potentially isolating to prevent the spread.
There is said to be a "100%" commitment to finishing the season, whatever the methods, with such large sums of money at stake for each team.
